Creating a checklist is one of the things we do in preparing mandatory to go to the field. Many items in a list control is evident on it, such as tents and pegs - but hey, if you forget this, then why bother?
What is not often you see a list of smaller objects that can be very useful in case of emergency or similar situations every day. The key word here is small - elements that can be packaged in a small bag or backpack, and easily stored. But first, here's an example from practicewhat happened to the undersigned:
My wife and I were camping in the tropics in our pop-top camper. We had the tent out. The sun was shining and we had a great day. After a day of doing nothing, we were very tired and turned in about 10.00 clock.
At 3 am on the clock the next morning I awoke to the sound of high winds and torrential rains. After about 10 minutes to listen to the crescendo of rain, there was an almighty crash that I had once jumped out of bed and opening the doorcampers. The sight greeting me was not a nice one. Rain was in the tent as a large swimming pool collected. Finally, the weight of the 'water was too much for one of the support arms and the tent was ripped tent and precipitating the collapse of her load of water. What to do in a dark and wet and windy, but not dressed for the occasion? Simple. Screw the head of the broom, take the roll of duct tape and a temporary splint broken arm with the handle of the broom andsome good old duct tape. I was back in bed within 5 minutes after the lowering of the legs tends to run a good track for the rain (lesson) provide.
Ahh tape ... One of those little things - easy to forget, but oh so close at hand when you need it here are a few others for testing. Maybe you can add to the list.
Velcro. The double-sided type. You can use as the tape, but is reusable. I buy a meter and use it for all sorts of things around the camp.It helps to keep many things nice and tidy and safe (perhaps mischievous kids!).
BlueTac. Many uses here. Keep candles up to secure small items from rolling around on the road.
Tel. Not what you think because you are camping outside the coverage area can be, but most mobile phones now also functions of the camera, calculator, date and time, just conditioning, etc. - a multi-function gadgets , in fact.
Miniature flashlight. These are light, bright, andBatteries seem to last forever. Some have a mode of signaling. The guy with a band are particularly useful, so that both hands free (to fix a broken tent, for example). They are usually with more than one function - wide-angle, place and infrared.
Small spirit level. Especially useful if you are camping off the beaten path and want to rig your level of comfort and efficiency to get the refrigerator. I also use one to help my camera when taking rewardedSnapshots!
Multi-function tool. You know, bend the guy and you have a complete set of tools in the palm of your hand! There are several varieties of these. If you do, do, you always have that one, the tools you want, and one that is a mark of quality - multi-functional junk will not help for very long.
Lock pocket knife or a knife in his pocket. Mine has only two blades - a knife and a screwdriver-cum file. Keep it clear and easilyoiled.
A small compass. No, I'm always in survival mode, but this could be useful if you pitch your tent in a sad day. Also useful, of course, if you do not have a GPS for hiking, if I could blindfold my wife, and she would always point out, swear north.
A whistle. If you draw attention to themselves, ask for help, the whistle!
Batteries. I have always a good supply of smaller batteries for small electrical appliances - flashlight, fire starter, TVRemote!
Jubilee clips. You know, the expandable screw ring. It is not necessary, but I carry a variety of smaller sizes. You never know when this will be a save situation.
A selection of fuses. I wear the type of knife for self and some type of cartridge parts for electrical appliances.
A small amount of cables and maybe even some elastic rope. I guess you could say it is the Velcro strip or not to replace, but that would be a mistake? I stronglyBeliever in the right tool for the job.
This is not an exhaustive selection by any means, but I hope that gives fuel for thought. Camping happy.
